MTN Ghana Donates Computers to Climate Ministry to Support Sustainability Agenda

Telecommunications giant MTN Ghana has donated computers and accessories to Ghana’s Office of the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, strengthening the operational capacity of the newly established ministry.
The presentation forms part of MTN Ghana’s broader sustainability commitment and follows earlier engagements between the company and the ministry to assess priority needs during its formation phase.
Supporting a New Climate Institution
Speaking at the ceremony, MTN Ghana’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, Adwoa Wiafe, explained that the donation responded directly to the ministry’s request for essential working tools, including computers, projectors, and presentation screens.
“When the ministry was being set up, we engaged to understand its immediate needs. Today’s donation directly responds to those priorities and supports the vital national work underway,” she said.
Ms. Wiafe stressed that sustainability remains central to MTN Ghana’s long-term business strategy rather than a peripheral corporate responsibility initiative.
She highlighted ongoing internal measures such as the integration of electric vehicles into operations and the adoption of biodegradable materials, underscoring the company’s environmental stewardship efforts.
“This partnership goes beyond equipment. We are committed to sustained collaboration through knowledge-sharing, innovation, and long-term engagement,” she added.
Government Welcomes Private Sector Partnership
Receiving the equipment, Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Seidu Issifu, described the gesture as a demonstration of responsible private sector leadership.
He noted that the ministry is currently laying a strong institutional foundation, including the establishment of a Technical Working Committee made up of cross-sector representatives to coordinate Ghana’s climate response.
“Climate change cuts across every sector of our economy. Coordinated action, supported by strong partnerships, is essential to delivering measurable impact,” he stated.
The minister invited MTN Ghana to formally participate in the Technical Working Committee, emphasising that private sector expertise plays a critical role in shaping practical and sustainable climate policies.

Broader Climate Strategy
Mr. Issifu outlined additional plans to strengthen Ghana’s climate governance framework, including the creation of climate and sustainability units across various ministries and expansion of initiatives to local government levels.
He also disclosed plans to establish a National Climate and Sustainability Hub to serve as a centre of excellence for research, capacity building, and policy coordination.
In addition, the government intends to convene a National Climate Business Forum aimed at deepening private sector engagement in climate adaptation and green growth strategies.
“We cannot confront climate change with policy alone. It demands behavioural transformation, community engagement, and strong partnerships with forward-looking businesses,” the minister said.
He assured MTN Ghana that the donated equipment would be fully deployed to enhance the ministry’s work and expressed confidence that the company’s example would encourage broader corporate participation in Ghana’s sustainability agenda.
