Accra, Ghana – Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Greater Accra Region, Divine Otoo Agorhom, has called on party members to put aside internal differences and support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming 2028 elections after his decisive victory in the party’s presidential primaries.

In Agorhom’s statement on Sunday, February 1, he decribed the results of the primaries as a clear endorsement or support of Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, vision and longstanding commitment to value of the party.

According to the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NPP, the results shows that majority of the delegates have confidence in the former Vice President to lead the New Patriotic Party into the future as they prepare for the 2028 general elections hoping for victory.

Mr. Agorhom also commended other aspirants who contested the primaries, including former Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and several others, noting that their participation enriched the democratic process within the party.

He stressed that competitive internal elections, when managed peacefully, strengthen political parties and improve their readiness for national contests.

“The task ahead is greater than any individual ambition, and our unity is essential for success,” the statement quoted Mr. Agorhom as saying.

Focus Shifts to 2028 Elections

After a successful primaries, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman made it clear that the party must now turn its attention to rebuilding cohesion, mobilising grassroots structures, and consolidating support across all regions.

He emphasised that presenting a united front would be critical to defeating the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the next general elections and sustaining Ghana’s development agenda.

“Now is the time for us to close ranks, mobilise our structures at every level, and present a united front as we prepare to face the NDC in 2028,” the statement added.

Mr. Agorhom concluded by calling for renewed purpose and collective responsibility within the party, urging supporters to prioritise national interest and party unity over internal divisions.

“God bless the New Patriotic Party, and God bless Ghana,” he said.

Political analysts say the NPP’s ability to manage post-primary unity will play a significant role in shaping its prospects ahead of the 2028 elections, particularly in highly competitive regions such as Greater Accra.
